- Co-packaged Optics (CPO)
Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) refers to an architectural approach in which optical engines are integrated directly adjacent to, or within the same package as, switch ASICs or compute processors. The objective is to significantly shorten electrical interconnects, enabling higher data rates, lower latency, and improved signal integrity.
CPO designs are considered a key enabler for AI clusters, hyperscale data centers, HPC systems, and future network architectures, as they significantly increase bandwidth density and energy efficiency. However, this compact integration places the highest demands on precision, miniaturization, thermal stability, and optical packaging—a central challenge in modern photonics development.
Optical Requirements for Co-Packaged Optics
Compared to conventional transceiver approaches, Co-Packaged Optics require substantially higher integration density combined with extremely tight optical and mechanical tolerances. Optical components must not only deliver high performance, but also be reproducible and assembly-friendly.
Custom Microlens Arrays for Co-Packaged Optics Architectures
INGENERIC microlens arrays enable precise, low-loss optical coupling within CPO architectures. They provide a robust, reproducible, and high-performance interface between photonic chiplets, lasers, fibers, and PIC-based transceivers. Our optical designs are developed application-specifically and tailored to your technical requirements, ensuring optimal alignment of optical performance, efficiency, and system integration.
